BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES
While you are watching the video below, there are a few important things you need to pay attention to:
1) Know the names of the organelles.
2) Learn main the function of the organelles:
i) Nucleus - contain DNA and Nucleolus, controlling all cell functions
ii) Endoplasmic Ruiticulum - Rough ER - contains ribosomes which makes proteins
- break down toxins in the cell
iii) Golgi body - prepares proteins to be exported from the cell to work somwhere else
iv) Mitochondria - Generates energy
v) Lysome - breaks down food
vi) Cytoplasm - fluid in the cell containting the organelles
vii) Centrioles - involved in cell devision
viii) Cell membrane - selective permeability
3) Know that there is a difference between the nucleus and the nucleolus - you are not required to explain how they differ, just know that they are different.
4) Cytoskeleton - maintain the cell's structure.
5) Plant cells have a large vacuole - storage and structural support
6) Chloroplast - photosynthesis
7) Cell wall - provide structure
I hope you have enjoyed it and do not feel overwhelmed with all the new information.
On the "Additional information" page towards the end are two links you can go on to explore three-dimensional models of animal and plant cells. It is worth checking it out!
On the next page, there is a game that will help you to learn more and will make it easier to remember all the new terminology.
At the bottom of the page, you will find a to padlet where you will have the opportunity to ask questions and share with others what you found interesting. You can also let me know how much you enjoy learning about cells.
If you have any questions, click HERE and let me know so I can help you learn.
